The Oscar-winning 'Titanic' and 'Avatar' director has bestowed high praise on Alfonso Cuaron's breathtaking new movie starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, which recently held its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
He told Variety: ''I was stunned, absolutely floored. I think it's the best space photography ever done, I think it's the best space film ever done, and it's the movie I've been hungry to see for an awful long time.''
The filmmaker - who holds the distinction for directing the two highest grossing movies of all time - was particularly impressed by Oscar winner Bullock's performance as Dr. Ryan Stone, a medical engineer who goes on a space mission with astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney), but finds herself drifting aimlessly through space when their shuttle crashes.
Cameron said: ''What is interesting is the human dimension ... Alfonso and Sandra working together to create an absolutely seamless portrayal of a woman fighting for her life in zero gravity.
''I think it's really important for people in Hollywood to understand what was accomplished here.''
'Gravity' has won early praise from critics ahead of its US release in October and UK release in November.
Following its world premiere, it was recently announced the film will be screened at the BFI London Film Festival next month.
